Travis grew up in a small Midwest town outside of St. Louis without the slightest idea about rock climbing and mountaineering. Once in college, he was invited by some friends to go rock climbing in Northwest Arkansas. It was there that he began his life as a climber. Throughout college, Travis continued to advance in his skills and desire for more adventurous terrain. This led him to begin traveling more for climbing. His travels took him to places such as Smith Rock, Oregon; Adirondacks, New York; Red River Gorge, Kentucky; Red Rocks, Nevada; various locations in Colorado, Wyoming, and California. Through out his travels, he would return home and hone his skills on the sandstone of Southern Illinois.
In 2010, Travis became an American Mountain Guides Association Certified Single Pitch Instructor. He has since become an AMGA Certified Rock Instructor and is now a Certified Rock Guide. He has also taken the AMGA's Ice Instructor Course. He is based out of Brevard, NC where he works for Fox Mountain Guides year round.
