Intro to Mountaineering Course

Duration

4-6 Days

About the Course

The sport of mountaineering has been around for centuries and it can take many different forms. In this course, the primary climbing medium will be snow and glacier. There is no better place to learn these skills than on the Cascade volcano of Mount Baker (Koma Kulshan). It is a glaciated strata volcano lying just south of the Canadian border. It is home to 11 glaciers and is one of the snowiest places in North America.

This course is great for those looking to climb some of the higher peaks in the Cascades or around the world. The skills learned include camp craft, cramponing, self arrest, glacial rope travel, navigation, and basic crevasse rescue. If done as a private course, the skills learned can be tailored to your needs. Besides skills development, a summit attempt is a part of every course.

This course is best done in 4-6 days depending on previous skills, desired outcomes, and group size. It is best to have some hiking and/ or backpacking experience. This course is best June through August.
